Demidov Alexander Sergeyevich, 1944 year of birth, the Dr. Sci. Biol., the professor is the director of the Main Botanical Garden named after N. V. Tsitsin of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
He is known as the expert in the field of an introduction of plants. About 300 scientific publications, including 6 books and brochures, 3 patents for the invention are published.
A. Demidov’s scientific interests are connected with a solution of the problem of the biological forecast-estimation of adaptive reactions of tropical and subtropical plants, development of methods of stimulation of a normal course of ontogenes – and also with problems of an introduction of ornamental of an introduction of ornamental plants and activity of botanical gardens.
Within 10 years A. Demidov heads the Council of botanical gardens of Russia (Scientific council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on problems of an introduction and acclimatization of plants); he is the member of Presidium of Council of the Russian botanical society and Museum council of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
A. Demidov works actively over expansion of a sphere of influence of botanical gardens of Russia in foreign countries. Now the Council of botanical gardens of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and the Council of botanical gardens of Community of Independent countries at the International association of the academies of sciences, which chairman is Demidov, are created.
