GUAN Kaiyun (管开云)

GUAN Kaiyun is now a professor of Kunming Institute of Botany; professor and deputy director of the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography; director of the Turpan Eremophytes Botanic Garden, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He was the director of the Kunming Botanical Garden, CAS from 1995 to 2006.
 
He was graduated from Yunnan Normal University in 1975. From 1989 to 1991, he worked in Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh as a visiting scholar. He visited and studied in Japan for several times from 1997 to 2006 and achieved his PhD of science from Osaka Prefecture University in 2007.
He is also the vice-president of the International Camellia Society, vice-president of the Botanic Garden Society of China, vice-president of the Camellia Society of China, standing committee member of the Chinese Biodiversity Committee. Prof. Guan has published over 110 scientific papers and 23 books or monographs, and holds ten patents and registered twenty seven new plant cultivars. He was awarded as an outstanding scientist by the Chinese government. The fields of his research interests include Conservation biology, plant taxonomy, landscape planning and horticulture; special interests to the genera of Rhododendron, Camellia, Begonia, Iris and Climatis.
