Botanical Garden Development and Management

Training Course

August 28th to September 15th, 2018

Course objectives

   To coordinate, promote and support the development and management of Asian botanical gardens

   To help build regional capacity and expertise at a time of rapid global change

   To strengthen botanical garden networking among the Asian developing countries and promote exchange of professional skills and ideas

This course includes

   lectures and discussion, cover the Mission and the Development of Botanic Gardens, Plant Exhibitions & Shows, Botanical Garden Design, Conservatory & Production Greenhouse Management, Plants Production Management and Flower Border Design, Genetic Issues in Plant Conservation, Plant Taxonomy, Naturalized and Invasive Plants, Herbarium Management & Seed Bank, Education Theory & Practice, Botanic Garden Customer Service & Marketing, etc

   field excursion to Tianmu Mountain to gain practical experience on plant identification, field survey and techniques, linking in situ living plant populations with ex situ plant collections

   visits to Chinese botanical gardens

Application eligibility

   Botanical staff (young leaders, deputy director, head of collections, horticulturist in charge of a collection, etc.) from Asian developing countries

   Fluent in English, the course will be delivered in English

   Complete application form

   Two recommendation letters

   A brief report on botanic gardens and horticulture industry in your country (maximum 2 pages)

   Resumé

Financial assistance

   Offered by Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China and Shanghai Chenshan Botanical Garden

   Cover the expense of course, domestic travel inside China, accommodation and workday lunches

   Applicants seeking financial assistance of international travel should include a formal letter specifying their financial needs in the application package
